My Thoughts

Two weeks of movies!

Thanks for your awesome support and prayers during my hyperbaric oxygen treatments. You are my social support team. You also provided me a list of more than 90 movies to watch! How about that! I took about 30 movies off the list because I had already seen or could not watch (Night at the Museum is too scary. I can’t run from the room like I do at home!) The movie list gives me hope that I will not get too bored through the treatments.

My heart beats a little faster the first minutes in the oxygen bubble. I have little control for the next two and half hours. I can knock on the clear glass but I cannot immediately jump up and walk away. The oxygen pressure has to be reduced gradually first, so I am stuck and learning to relax and not worry. God teaches us in many ways.

kathryn going into bubbleI had a dream after the first night of treatment. Dreamed I was speeding in a race car down one of those multilevel, circular, mad Dallas-type highways, steering from the passenger’s back seat and peeking around the person in front of me. Wheels tilted over the pavement edge! No one sat in the drivers’ seat! Then I looked and saw someone driving. A thin, middle aged man with short cropped blond hair. He smiled.  It was Mead, my oxygen treatment tech. I woke and realized I have put my life in his hands.

I did not watch a movie the first day but prayed and dozed for 2 ½ hours. The bubble is too cold for me to sleep, even though I am up to eight blankets, four hospital blankets doubled. Most of the time when the movie ends, I have time to meditate.

Movies I watched. The first movie I declined after 2 minutes. Already had nudity.  (I forgot to take a movie with me.) Then the tech started the next choice. Here are the movies I have watched so far.

  • Fried Green Tomatoes.
  • Taken From Me. Great story line about Tiffany Rubin whose son was kidnapped and taken to Korea.
  • Amazing Love: The Story of Hosea. The book of Hosea, and God’s amazing love story was awesomely portrayed.
  • Under the Tuscan Sun. It was good, real life stuff, but had some sex scenes.
  • Home beyond the Sun. About adoption.
  • Yours, Mine and Ours with Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda.
  • Jane Eyre. The newest one. Charlotte Bronte is definitely a classic writer.
  • The Second Chance. Christian movie.
  • The Philadelphia Story. Old time mushy, with Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn and James Stewart.

Actually I watched a 10th movie. Leaning Spanish words in preparation for our mission trip to Nicaragua. I have finished 10 movies with 50 more to go!

The treatments are easy and I am feeling fine. They are to help improve my health now and for the future. Radiation can have long term negative effects, especially if you had too much, so these oxygen treatments are helpful for current healing and also preventive care.

You are loved,

I am so sorry you have to go through all this. I just pray God will continue to give you the strength to get through all this. You will be a living testimony of his love, grace, and power to get us through the most difficult times. I am happy you get to take a break and get a vacation and rest and enjoy yourself. I will continue to pray for you. If you have not seen these movies, I suggest these, because they are excellent movies I know you would enjoy:

Do you believe?
Courageous
Gods Not Dead
Facing the Giants
Monumental
The Love Comes Softly Series by Michael Landon Jr.
The Grace Card

All these Christian movies are good ones:

A lot of these movies you can buy at Mardel Bookstore for $5.00 a piece.

With my love,
