Cancer: Will I Lose my Hair?

Many have asked if I would lose my hair. Maybe. Maybe not. I wouldn’t mind losing hair on my legs, underarms, or the two on my chinny-chin-chin, but with my luck that  probably won’t happen. This week, I lost a little hair, like it’s thinning. But at least hair loss is not painful or uncomfortable. I did as suggested and got my hair cut short, wash it less often, use no products to weigh it down, and do little hair drying.

A sweet student asked me the other day if I had lost hair. I said, “No. Why do you ask?” He said “Your hair is shorter so I thought you lost some.”

Doc said I shouldn’t lose any more hair but could not guarantee it so I’m considering a wig. Or at least lessons in how to wrap a head scarf—you know how I like to be prepared. I thanked my kind sister-in-law for the shawl she sent then I realized it could be used as a gorgeous turban.  I’ve considered asking Muslim lady friends how to wear a head covering, but Bill is not inclined to that. However, many India and Middle Eastern friends who wear these scarfs are Christian and I wore one when I visited over there.

I am doing extremely well considering all. Two more weeks of treatment remaining, and these two will be the worst. Keep praying for me. Nausea comes and goes. So far, I’ve had few mouth sores, slept well, and lost only a couple of pounds so your prayers are certainly being answered.

I’ve been reading Psalm a lot and am reminded that God knows about each cell in my body. He knows the damaged DNA and how to fix it. At our next to last Bible study, I shared Psalm 139, my favorite Psalm. Here is part of it.

“For you [God] created my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body.”

Isn’t it amazing that God created our specific bodies? And after we die, we’ll be made new “in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye.” One day He’ll fix everything messed up on this earth.

Personally, I think God has a big computer with everyone’s DNA, and someday He’ll give us a new body with perfected genes. “And He who was seated on the throne said, ‘Behold I am making all things new.” Rev 21:5.

God even knows the exact color my hair should be!

You are loved,

I thank God for your faith and belief in God to get you through this. This is just a stepping stone in your life to get you to the next phase of your life he has planned for you. What is a little hair lose, when you will receive so much more in return. Just as satan stole from Job and he received double back, so will you in Jesus name. I thank God he is answering our prayers to get you through this treatment with the least amount of discomfort.
